Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 18, 2026

Introduction

Clip Text Transform ("we," "our," or "the application") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we handle information when you use our macOS application.

Personal Information We Do Not Collect

Clip Text Transform is designed with privacy as a core principle. We do not collect, store, or share any personal information. The application sends data to only two places: anonymous diagnostics to us, described below, and — only if you turn it on — a copy of your scripts and settings to your own iCloud account, described under "iCloud Sync". Specifically, we do not collect:

  • Names, email addresses, or any identifying information
  • Location data
  • Clipboard content beyond what is necessary for the immediate transformation
  • Any data that can be used to identify you personally
  • Payment information or financial data

Information We Collect

Clip Text Transform collects only anonymous, non-personal data that is necessary for:

  • Identifying and fixing bugs and errors in the application
  • Understanding which features are most useful to improve the user experience
  • Discovering popular custom scripts to improve the app's built-in transformation library
  • Tracking app installations and updates

The data we collect includes:

  • App version and build number
  • App launch events
  • Which transformations are used (e.g., "lowercase", "uppercase")
  • Custom script usage statistics
  • Custom script management events
  • Custom script definitions (name and find/replace patterns) — sensitive values in them (such as email addresses, phone numbers, and payment card numbers) are masked on your device before the data is sent to our analytics service
  • Script import and export operations
  • Language changes (to understand language preferences)
  • Crash reports and error logs collected through Firebase Crashlytics (without personal information)

Important: This data is anonymous and is not linked to your identity. We never collect the content of your clipboard or the text you transform. The only user-entered content we collect is your custom script definitions, and sensitive values within them are automatically masked on your device before transmission. This masking applies to the diagnostics we receive; it does not apply to iCloud Sync, which stores your scripts exactly as you wrote them in your own iCloud account (see "iCloud Sync"). We recommend that you avoid entering sensitive personal information into custom scripts.

How Clip Text Transform Works

Clip Text Transform is a status bar application that provides text transformation features. The application:

  • Checks your clipboard when you open the menu, so it can show you which transformations are available for what you copied
  • Reads text from your clipboard when you select a transformation
  • Performs the requested transformation locally on your device
  • Places the transformed text back into your clipboard
  • Does not transmit any clipboard data to us or to any third party
  • Converts files you copied in Finder: it reads the text inside them, transforms it, writes new files inside its own application container and places those on your clipboard, so you can paste them wherever you like
  • Optionally keeps a local History of your recent transformations on your device (see "Data Storage")
  • Never records content that its source application marked as protected, such as a password copied from a password manager

All text transformation processing occurs entirely on your local machine. Your clipboard content never leaves your device. Beyond that, the application transmits only anonymous usage statistics (as described in the "Information We Collect" section) and, if you have turned on iCloud Sync, the copy of your scripts and settings that goes to your own iCloud account (see "iCloud Sync").

No-history mode: you can apply a transformation without it being recorded in the local History, so a one-off transformation is not saved.

Clipboard Access

Clip Text Transform requires access to your clipboard to function. This access is used solely for:

  • Determining what kind of content you copied, so the menu can show which transformations apply to it
  • Reading the text you wish to transform
  • Writing the transformed text back to your clipboard

Your clipboard is accessed at two moments, both of them started by you: when you open the application's menu, and when you select a transformation. Opening the menu reads only as much as is needed to tell text apart from files, images and other content (for files, see "Files you copied" below) — this is what lets the application grey out transformations that cannot work on what you copied, instead of running them and overwriting your clipboard.

The application does not run in the background watching your clipboard: it does not poll it, does not keep a timer, and reads nothing while its menu is closed. It does not monitor or log clipboard contents, and all clipboard data remains on your local device.

Files you copied. When your clipboard holds files, opening the menu reads their properties — whether an item is a folder, whether it is empty, whether it can be opened and how large it is — and, when those checks pass, up to the first 4 KB of each file, in order, to tell a text file from a binary one before a transformation is offered. Nothing beyond that is read at that moment, and a set of files that is too large to convert is not opened at all. A file is read in full only when you click a transformation, and only the files you copied. The application never browses your folders and never opens anything you did not put on the clipboard yourself.

Protected content. Some applications, including password managers, mark what they place on the clipboard as protected. When they do, Clip Text Transform honours that mark: the content is never written to the local History, neither the original nor the result is stored, and the transformed value keeps the same protection mark so that other clipboard tools do not save it either. Whether content carries this mark is decided by the application you copied from, not by us — we never inspect what you copied to guess whether it looks like a secret.

Data Storage

Clip Text Transform stores minimal data on your device:

  • Your custom transformation scripts
  • App preferences and settings, including selected language
  • Your recent transformation lists (Recent and Favorites)
  • Your transformation History, if enabled (described below)
  • A local copy of the built-in script library, so it stays available offline (in your Application Support folder)
  • The timestamps the application keeps so that changes can be merged between your Macs if you turn on iCloud Sync, and — once you have turned it on — a random identifier for this installation (see "iCloud Sync")

Transformation History: When History is enabled, Clip Text Transform saves your recent transformations — including the original and resulting text — to a file stored locally on your device (in your Application Support folder). This History exists solely to let you review and reuse your recent transformations. It is:

  • Stored only on your device and never transmitted to us or to any third party
  • Excluded from device backups (such as Time Machine and iCloud)
  • Automatically deleted after a retention period you control (10 days by default, configurable between 1 and 30 days)
  • Fully under your control — you can delete individual entries or clear the entire History at any time, or disable History entirely

Converted files: converting files produces copies, and those copies are kept on your device in the application's own container inside your Application Support folder. There are two places, with different lifetimes, and neither is ever transmitted to us or to any third party:

  • The result on your clipboard. macOS does not allow the application to write next to your original file, so a converted file is created inside its container and the clipboard points at it — that is what makes pasting into Finder work. Such a file is kept only while your clipboard still refers to it: the next time the application starts, it deletes every one of them that your clipboard has moved on from. To decide that, it compares a counter the system provides; it does not read what is on your clipboard.
  • Copies kept with your History. If — and only if — you switch on "Keep the files" in the History window, the original and the converted file are stored alongside the History entry, so you can save them later. They live exactly as long as the entry does: deleting the entry, clearing the History, the retention period expiring, or switching the option off deletes them too. This option is off by default.

Both places are excluded from device backups, and content marked as protected is never written to either of them, whatever the options say.

Import/Export Feature: When you export your custom scripts, they are saved to a JSON file on your device at a location you choose. When you import scripts, the application reads the JSON file you select. All import and export operations are performed locally on your device. We do not have access to your exported or imported script files, and these operations are not transmitted to any external service.

All text transformation operations are performed in memory and are cleared immediately after completion (aside from the optional local History described above). Your clipboard content itself is never stored. Anonymous analytics data (as described in the "Information We Collect" section) may be transmitted to our analytics service but is not stored on your device.

iCloud Sync

You can have Clip Text Transform keep the same scripts and settings on each of your Macs. This is off by default. It starts only when you switch on "Sync with iCloud" in Settings › Options…, and it uses the iCloud account you are signed in to on that Mac. Until you do, nothing described in this section happens.

When it is on, the application stores a copy of the following in your iCloud account, using Apple's iCloud key-value storage:

  • Your custom scripts — each script's name, find text, replace text, and whether it uses a regular expression, exactly as you wrote them. Unlike the diagnostics described under "Information We Collect", this copy is not masked: it is your own data, going to your own account, and the other Mac needs it intact
  • Your Favorites, the order of your scripts and favorites, and which scripts you have hidden — stored as identifiers, not as the scripts themselves
  • Your Options toggles (on or off for each), except Launch at Login and the iCloud Sync switches themselves, which stay on the Mac they were set on
  • A schema version and a random identifier for the installation that last wrote the copy. The identifier is generated by the application; it is not your Mac's name, serial number, or any hardware identifier

Each of the three groups can be switched on or off separately. Nothing else is synced: your History, your clipboard, the text you transform, and the files you convert stay on the Mac they are on.

The copy travels between your Macs through Apple's iCloud service, under your Apple ID and Apple's iCloud terms. We do not operate that service and do not receive, read, or have access to the copy: it is stored in your iCloud account, not with us. Apple describes this kind of storage as intended for settings and small amounts of data rather than for secrets, and notes that it is kept on disk in unencrypted form — so please do not put passwords, keys, or other secrets into custom scripts, whether or not you use sync.

Turning it off. Switching off one of the three groups stops the exchange for that group on that Mac; nothing is deleted, on the Mac or in iCloud. Switching off "Sync with iCloud" itself asks you to confirm and then deletes the application's copy from your iCloud account. Your scripts and settings stay on this Mac, and the copies already on your other Macs stay on them — nothing is removed from any Mac. If you turn syncing on again later, a fresh copy is uploaded from that Mac.

Whether iCloud is available, and how much storage Apple allots to the application in it, is decided by Apple. If iCloud is unavailable or that storage is full, syncing pauses and the Options window says so; the data on this Mac is not changed.

Third-Party Services

Clip Text Transform uses Firebase services provided by Google to collect anonymous usage statistics and crash reports for the purposes described in the "Information We Collect" section. Specifically, we use:

  • Firebase Analytics - to understand which features are most useful and improve the overall user experience
  • Firebase Crashlytics - to identify and fix bugs, crashes, and errors in the application
  • Firebase Remote Config - to remotely adjust app settings and enable or disable features without requiring an app update. Remote Config only delivers configuration values to the app; it does not collect or transmit any of your data
  • Firebase Realtime Database - to deliver the app's built-in script library to the app. The app only reads this library; it does not transmit any of your data

Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics collect only anonymous, non-personal data. No clipboard content or transformed text is transmitted to Firebase or any other third-party service. The only user-entered content transmitted to Firebase is your custom script definitions, with sensitive values masked on your device before transmission. Crash reports include technical information about errors but do not include any personal information or clipboard content.

For more information about Firebase's privacy practices, please visit Firebase Privacy and Security.

Apple iCloud — used only if you switch on iCloud Sync, to store the copy of your scripts and settings described in the "iCloud Sync" section in your own iCloud account. That copy is exchanged with Apple's servers, not ours, and is governed by Apple's terms and Apple's Privacy Policy.

Clip Text Transform does not use any advertising networks, tracking services, or other data collection services beyond the Firebase services described above. Apple iCloud is not a data collection service for us: it holds your copy in your account, and we have no access to it.

Permissions

Clip Text Transform does not require any special system permissions to function. On macOS, applications can access the clipboard without requesting explicit permissions. The application uses standard macOS clipboard APIs that are available to all applications without requiring user authorization.

No permissions are requested or required for Clip Text Transform to operate. All clipboard access is performed using standard system APIs that do not require special privileges.

Launch at Login: if you enable this option, the app registers itself as a standard macOS login item so it can start when you log in. No data is collected as part of this.

Children's Privacy

Clip Text Transform does not knowingly collect any personal information from anyone, including children under the age of 13. The anonymous usage data we collect (as described in the "Information We Collect" section) does not include any personal information and is safe for users of all ages.

Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last Updated" date. We encourage you to review this Privacy Policy periodically to stay informed about how we protect your privacy.

Your Rights

Since we do not collect, store, or receive any personal information, there is no data held by us to access, modify, or delete. The data the application keeps is on your device and — if you have turned on iCloud Sync — in your own iCloud account, where you can delete the copy at any time by switching "Sync with iCloud" off (see "iCloud Sync"). Your privacy is a matter of design: the application does its work locally on your Mac.
