Case converter: change text case online or on your Mac

Paste your text, click a conversion, copy the result. It all happens right here in your browser.

Your text is processed in your browser and never sent anywhere.

  • Capitalize All Words — Raises the first letter of every word and lowers the rest: iPhone becomes Iphone.
  • Capitalize First Word — Raises only the first character of the text and leaves the rest as it is: iPhone becomes IPhone.
  • Remove Extra Spaces — Trims the ends and turns every run of spaces, tabs or line breaks into one space, so several lines become one.
  • Dash-Separated — Tidies spaces and line breaks the same way, then turns each space into a hyphen. Letter case and punctuation stay as they are.

These six conversions are also menu items in Clip Text Transform, a free app for the Mac menu bar. See how it works on a Mac

How to change text case on Mac without retyping

The converter above needs a browser tab. On a Mac you can skip it: Clip Text Transform sits in your menu bar and runs the same six conversions on whatever you’ve copied.

  1. 1

    Copy

Copy the text in whatever app you’re in — ⌘C, as usual.

  2. 2

    Click

Click the Clip Text Transform icon in the menu bar and pick a transformation — Uppercase, say.

  3. 3

    Paste

The converted text is back on your clipboard. ⌘V wherever you were writing.

What each conversion does

The six buttons above, one row each — the same names you’ll find as menu items in the Mac app:

  • Lowercase MAKE THIS QUIET make this quiet
  • Uppercase make this loud MAKE THIS LOUD
  • Capitalize All Words TOP PICKS Top Picks

The first letter of every word goes up, the rest go down.

  • Capitalize First Word hello world Hello world

Only the first character of the text changes; everything else is left as it was.

  • Remove Extra Spaces Text with spaces Text with spaces

Runs of whitespace become one space, and the ends are trimmed.

  • Dash-Separated new user profile new-user-profile

The two Capitalize items are two different tools, not two names for one — the FAQ below spells out the difference.

Dash-Separated — turn spaces into dashes in one step

Copy a phrase, click Dash-Separated, paste new-user-profile: extra spaces are collapsed first, then every space becomes a hyphen — the shape of a URL slug or a git branch name, in one click.

It leaves letter case alone: Hello World comes out as Hello-World. So start from lower-case text, or run Lowercase first. Underscores aren't touched either — user_name stays user_name. Need a different separator? That's the next section.

Need snake_case? Build it with your own find & replace script

The built-ins stop at spaces and hyphens. For any other separator, write a script: Find _, Replace -, Regular Expression off — and user_name becomes user-name, ready for a CSS class or a URL segment. No built-in does that.

Going the other way, to snake_case, is honest arithmetic: a script can swap every space for _, but it cannot change letter case — so on text that isn't already lower-case it takes two clicks, Lowercase first and then your space → _ script. Scripts live in their own window with a preview that updates as you type; build a separator script of your own.

Works from any app via the menu bar

Clip Text Transform works on your clipboard, not on a selection — so it works in any app that lets you copy: browser, editor, mail, terminal. Copy there, click in the menu bar, paste back. It’s the same six conversions as the converter at the top of this page, with the same result, just without the browser tab. And the text you convert stays on your Mac: the transformation runs on-device, with no cloud step in the middle.

Frequently asked questions

Is my text sent anywhere?

No. The converter on this page runs in your browser: your text is processed there and never sent anywhere. The page doesn’t save it either. In the Mac app the conversion runs on your Mac, and your clipboard never leaves it.

Is Capitalize All Words the same as title case or sentence case?

No. Capitalize All Words raises the first letter of every word, short words like “to” and “the” included, and lowers the rest: TOP PICKS becomes Top Picks, and iPhone becomes Iphone. It doesn’t follow a style guide such as AP or Chicago. Capitalize First Word raises only the first character of the text and leaves everything else as it was: hello WORLD becomes Hello WORLD. To turn an ALL‑CAPS line into a sentence, click Lowercase, then Capitalize First Word: HELLO WORLD becomes Hello world.

Does Remove Extra Spaces also trim the beginning and end of the text?

Yes. Runs of whitespace — line breaks included — collapse into a single space, and leading and trailing whitespace is removed, so a multi‑line block comes back as one line. A single space before a comma is left alone, because it isn’t "extra"; removing it is a one‑line find & replace rule.

Can I change the case in the Mac app without saving it to History?

Yes — that’s a Mac app feature; the converter on this page keeps no history at all. In Clip Text Transform, hold ⌃ Control while you click the transformation — that’s No‑history mode — and the text is converted as usual but nothing is written to History. History itself is yours to set: keep entries from 1 to 30 days, or turn it off entirely.

Will the Mac app give the same result?

Yes. Clip Text Transform has the same six conversions under the same names, and they give the same result as the converter on this page — the converter is checked against the app’s own output on a set of test texts. The difference is where you use them: in the app they work on your clipboard, from the menu bar, in any app you can copy from.

Does it work with accented letters, Cyrillic or German ß?

Yes. café becomes CAFÉ, ПРИВЕТ МИР becomes привет мир, and Uppercase turns straße into STRASSE. Characters that have no upper or lower case — Japanese kana, Korean Hangul, Chinese characters, digits — are left as they are.
